No one is like Daemon Black.
When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on. But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love. After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever. Together we’re stronger... and they know it.
With every book in this series I find myself connecting more and more with these characters. Even when they do something that annoyed me, I still love them for it. Opal had more of what I was looking for from the previous books. The romance was better and I enjoyed the characters more.
Even though the plot in Opal was all over the place in the beginning. It would be boring for multiple chapters, then jump into some actions, then repeat that all over again. It was just up and down. I still enjoyed so much of this book! Getting closer to the end is where it started picking up for me though.
As always Katy and Daemon's chemistry is amazing. I think there relationship continues to get better with each book. While in the second book, Katy fights her feelings for Daemon, they are finally together and they grew so much as a couple from Onyx to Opal.
"A slow, wry smile teased Daemon's lips. "Simmer down, Kitten, before I have to get you a ball of yarn to play with."
As the individual characters, at one point I was annoyed with one of them. There are moments where I think Katy has matured a lot over the last two books, but then she goes and does something ridiculous to prove she can handle herself, which just gets everyone into a mess. But I have to admit she used her head more in this book than she did in Onyx.
Daemon, as charming and amusing as he is, I would have loved to see character development from him. As much as I wish Katy had a bit more development, at least she had some, where as the only development I saw from Daemon was with his and Katy's relationship. Nonetheless, I love how he brings humor into this series.
Dee, she was my favorite character in Obsidian, so when I read Onyx and read how Katy stopped hanging out with her, I was upset with Katy. But in this book, Dee was nothing but annoying as hell. I understand she lost Adam. But why did she blame Katy? Honestly, I'm not a fan of any of the Alien bunch, except Daemon and Dawson. I don't know what's up with there attitudes toward Katy.
Onto Dawson, yes I love Daemon, he is an amazing character with a great sense of humor. But Dawson, *sigh* he is at the top of my favorite characters in the Lux series. I just want to give him a big hug.
There wasn't much I didn't like about him. He also had amazing development and I can't wait to read more about him.
And then we have Biff, I mean Blake. I couldn't bring myself to hate him. I really loved his character in Onyx. And I felt bad with the rest of the characters hating on him, even though he kind of deserves it. But, still, I never fully trusted him.
The ending, though surprising, I did see it coming... sort of. I knew something was going to happen at the end, 'cause I mean, the only time we don't really see cliffhangers is in a standalone or the last book of a series. So even though I was shocked, it was expected.
Overall, ever though Opal didn't start picking up for me until towards the end. I still loved the amazing characters even when they make stupid decisions. I just feel more connected towards them with every book. I can't wait to continue on with this series!
