Review: Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

Under the Never Sky (Under the Never Sky #1)
by Veronica Rossi
Published: January 3rd 2012

Since she'd been on the outside, she'd survived an Aether storm, she'd had a knife held to her throat, and she'd seen men murdered. This was worse.
Exiled from her home, the enclosed city of Reverie, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland - known as The Death Shop - are slim. If the cannibals don't get her, the violent, electrified energy storms will. She's been taught that the very air she breathes can kill her. Then Aria meets an Outsider named Perry. He's wild - a savage - and her only hope of staying alive.
A hunter for his tribe in a merciless landscape, Perry views Aria as sheltered and fragile - everything he would expect from a Dweller. But he needs Aria's help too; she alone holds the key to his redemption. Opposites in nearly every way, Aria and Perry must accept each other to survive. Their unlikely alliance forges a bond that will determine the fate of all who live under the never sky.

"She looked up. "A world of nevers under a never sky."
She fit in well then, he thought. A girl who never shut up."

I honestly can't name one thing I didn't like about Under the Never Sky. I loved the characters. The romance. The plot. And the writing.

To be honest I had no interest in reading this book. But then I saw a teaser Tuesday with one small quote and was just like, okay I'll read it. So I did! And I am really glad.

I enjoyed so much of Under the Never Sky. It's not a typical dystopian novel I've read before. Dystopian books always annoy me at some point in the book, and it usually takes me a bit to get into them. But Under the Never Sky was neither annoying, nor did it take me long to get into. I actually forgot it was dystopian, which is good, since it's not my favorite genre.

Under the Never Sky really exceeded my expectations. I loved about everything. The characters were amazing. The adventure was enjoyable and the romance was as close to a YA book can get to perfection! It wasn't rushed at all. It progressed rather nicely. As did the entire book!

"She absorbed the terror and beauty of him and his world. Of every moment over the past days. All of it, filling her up like the first breath she'd ever taken. And never had she loved life more."

I have had this sitting on my shelf to be read for months upon months. I didn't know if I'd ever get around to reading it, but now that I've read this review, I look forward to giving it a shot. Thank you!

I wasn't a fan of this book tbh, mainly because of the romance. But reviewers who previously didn't like mentioned TtEN was better, can't wait to see your review!

I'm a fan of dystopian novels, so this might be just be a book I'll enjoy. Thanks for sharing your enjoyment of of it even if it's not your preferred genre. Another book to add to my TBR list!

I need to read this. I have had it for over a year now. I too sometimes get annoyed with dystopian books. I'm glad this book didn't have one for you. Thanks for the review!

I read it last year and I'm sitting on my hands/biting my nails for my library to acquire the second book (there is only 1 or 2 in the whole REGION!!). I love the part where Perry had to inform Aria that she was having her period! I was flabbergasted and laughing at the same time!!!! LOVE it!

I felt the exact same way about this book in terms of its genre. There is always something about dystopians that I just do not like, but Under the Never Sky did not have that annoyance! It was so refreshing! After I read it I was all ready for more dystopian, but then of course I read more and went right back to not liking the genre. There is something very special about this series that sets it apart from other books. Thanks for review!

This book has some of the best world-building, even better characterization, and non-stop SOMETHING that just made it mind blowing for me. I loved every minute of it.
