City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1)
by Cassandra Clare
When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .
I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this book. I think because of all the hype around it I was expecting something amazing, but this was just all right. When Clary realizes her mom has been taking, she was upset for probably half a chapter. Then there's Simon, I really liked him, but I REALLY wish I could read a book that has female/male friendship and leaves it at that, instead in creating a love triangle.
A lot of people were saying how this book had a lot of unexpected twist,
But I found it predicable even the end. ( Except one part)
I wished I could learn more about the characters, because it was just like they existed with no personalty. Maybe i'll learn more about them, if I continue to read this series, but I feel like since this is the first book then I should have already gotten that.
Clary,Clary Clary.... I wish she would have fought more, instead of just standing around while she lets other fight.
I am in serious need of a Kick-Ass female character right now. *sigh*
Things I like....
Well there were some funny moments.
"Don't touch any of my weapons without my permission."
"Well, there goes my plan for selling them all on eBay," Clary muttered.
"Selling them on what?"
Clary smiled blandly at him. "A mythical place of great magical power."
Jace was a good character. I liked Luke. I liked Simon (more then Jace, yes xD) I liked Alec (want more of him). hmmmm I liked the world, and the demons. The action was nice, one thing I can say about this book was it was never dull.
I'm not giving up on this series, I will read the second book. But I need to take a break from this series and continue in a couple weeks. 3 out of 5 stars.
