Review: Easy by Tammara Webber

Easy
by Tammara Webber

A girl who believes trust can be misplaced, promises are made to be broken, and loyalty is an illusion. A boy who believes truth is relative, lies can mask unbearable pain, and guilt is eternal. Will what they find in each other validate their conclusions, or disprove them all?
When Jacqueline follows her longtime boyfriend to the college of his choice, the last thing she expects is a breakup two months into sophomore year. After two weeks in shock, she wakes up to her new reality: she's single, attending a state university instead of a music conservatory, ignored by her former circle of friends, and failing a class for the first time in her life.
Leaving a party alone, Jacqueline is assaulted by her ex's frat brother. Rescued by a stranger who seems to be in the right place at the right time, she wants nothing more than to forget the attack and that night--but her savior, Lucas, sits on the back row of her econ class, sketching in a notebook and staring at her. Her friends nominate him to be the perfect rebound.
When her attacker turns stalker, Jacqueline has a choice: crumple in defeat or learn to fight back. Lucas remains protective, but he's hiding secrets of his own. Suddenly appearances are everything, and knowing who to trust is anything but easy.

"Choosing to be with you, isn't a difficult decision, Jacqueline...It's easy. Incredibly easy."

When I first finished this book I only gave it four stars, and usually after I finish a book and think about it awhile it makes me want to drop a star. But in this case, I bumped Easy up!

This book starts out really strong. The first page is Jacqueline leaving a party and she almost gets raped. The way the first chapter was written I think were really important. For a scene like that, if it was written poorly, it would have thrown me off this book and I most likely wouldn't have picked it up again. But Webber delivers it amazingly.

We also meet Jacqueline love interest, Lucas, in the very beginning. At first I didn't think I would really like him all that much. But the more I read about him, the more he started becoming one of my favorite male characters in a book. EVER. Lucas, was just really mature, and I love that. He is incredibly sweet, smart, sexy and mysterious. He was prefect. Maybe to perfect. But in an absolutely perfect way ;)

"The night we met-I'm not like that guy." His jaw was rigid.
"I know tha-" He placed a finger over my lips, his expression softening.
"So I don't want you to feel pressured. Or overpowered. But I do, absolutely, want to kiss you right now. Badly."

The friendships in Easy were AMAZING. I love nothing more than great friendships in books. Love interests are great, sibling relationships are also wonderful to read about. But good friendships in any genre, is what can really make a book for me.

As I got closer to the end it did start getting a little on the predictable side. However, it didn't lessen how much I enjoyed every minute of Easy.

Despite the serious story about rape, and how important it is tell someone, even just one friend, Easy was an amazingly sweet and fun read, with amazing dialog.

"Love is not the absence of logic but logic examined and recalculated heated and curved to fit inside the contours of the heart."

I'm usually not drawn to these sorts of book premises, but I have heard so many good things about this book, I think I'll have to check it out. I'm especially glad to hear about this book having good friendships--so rare in Ya/NA lit these days!

Another book that I have heard such fantastic things about, but haven't taken the time to read. I will remedy that immediately. Rape is a subject that I take incredibly personally. If not done right, if not done well and respectfully, then I am done. And angry. Sounds like that isn't the case here. And I can't wait to take it for a spin. Thanks for the review!
